The Gift of Inheritance

As part of my quiet time I was reflecting on my grandchildren. This was after our oldest grandson came to visit us. It had been sometime since we saw him and it was a wonderful visit. Then I began to think about, am I covering my grandchildren with my prayers?

The word of God says, good people leave an inheritance to their grandchildren. Proverbs 13:22a (NLT version) Have you ever seen people simply squander away their inheritance? (No judgement here) There's a story in Luke 15:13 of the prodigal son and his inheritance. I am a grandchild who received an inheritance from my grandparents and no I didn't squander it just in case you were wondering. My grandparents left me with many things. I learned my love of travel from my grandparents. Looked forward to our annual visit to our family in North and South Carolina each summer. Once my great grandmother Polly Jones passed in the summer of 1973, we continued to visit our family members in the south.

My love for baking and gardening was taught and learned on west 4th street with my grandmother Lueree Jones. My sister and I lived with our paternal grandparents. My grandmother could set the prettiest table you ever wanted to see. And her sweet potato pie was always a winner. And then there was grandma Daisy Felton, you could always find cake and jello at her house. She also had a beautiful vegetable and flower garden. She also greeted each of her grandchildren with a smile and a big hug. Of all the things they taught me the best was the love for God. And that began at Shiloh Baptist Church on West 4th Street. I pray that my love for Christ and the life that I live before my grandchildren will be enough that they too just as I did would say what must I do to be saved?

The inheritance that I will leave them with is that of the Lord. I couldn't give them a better gift. The gift of eternal life. The gift of an abundant life here and now. Abundance comes in many forms. You can't give them nor leave them peace. Yet Jesus can and he says, My peace I give to you. There will be times when you can't comfort them, yet again Jesus says, He will send the Holy Spirit the comforter to comfort. And of course, that doesn't mean that there won't be a few dollars here or there. What I know today is the best gift I can and will leave them is the hope for eternal life in Jesus Christ.

Inspirational reading:

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. John 10:10 NLT version

But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Comforter won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. John 16:7

In times of uncertainty please know that there's always hope. If you find that you need to talk to someone, please connect with me. After all I want to help you face your future with a smile.
