What's your foundation built on?
Happy New Year! We are now 9 days into 2020. How many of you made the traditional resolution? And after 9 days how many are still on track? (No judgement here) Last year I tried something different after attending a teleconference, they discussed choosing one word for the year instead of making a resolution. After the call I thought that sounds good to me and I took the challenge. The word that I used last year was "curiosity". In my curiosity, I was like a baby discovering the world around them for the first time.
This year my word is "foundation". Why foundation? Here are some of the definitions of foundation: an underlying base or support; a body or ground upon which something is built up or overlaid; the basis or groundwork of anything; The natural or prepared ground or base on which some structure rests; the lowest division of a building, wall, or the like, usually of masonry and partly or wholly below the surface of the ground. The purpose of a foundation is to hold you up and keep you stable in overwhelming and unbearable situation.
As I am writing this blog I am also preparing to attend the home-going service for my niece in Nashville, T.N. I haven't been to Nashville, in 4 years. Even then it was to attend the home-going service of my brother. Within the past year and a half I have lost a son, a nephew, and now my niece. Within the past four years, I lost a brother, a sister, and countless family and friends. Which brings me back to the word "foundation". If my foundation wasn't laid in the Lord, I wouldn't be able to write this nor would you be able to see the God that resides in me. Who is He? the one who strengthens me, who I put my trust in and who's foundation I am built on. I do realize that I am not the only person to experience these things nor would I be the last. My reason for sharing isn't for sympathy but to help you face your future with a smile in the midst of these times. The same foundation that I have can also be your foundation. You're never alone and you can move forward.
Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: "Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem, a firm and tested stone. It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on. Whoever believes need never be shaken. Isaiah 28:16 NLT version
"Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Through the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won't collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn't obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. Matthew 7:24-27 NLT version
